Tornado Damage Photos at Eutaw Online

Update on the Drug Bust in Eutaw

A methamphetamine lab and counterfeit money in Eutaw???

As hard as it is to believe, the answer is yes. And to make matters worse, all of that was happening on Lee Street, in a house next door to the elementary school.

How fortunate we are to have a police chief that knows what he is doing and shut the place down. While writing the news article for www.EutawOnline.com, I had to look up the spelling of methamphetamine, it was then that I read just how dangerous those labs are to the community.

They are so dangerous that a hazmat team has to do the clean-up because they are considered a hazardous waste site. What kind of a person would do such a thing next door to an elementary school? It's sickening.

Our police spent the entire day out there and they were still there long after the sun went down. They deserve to be paid more money. They're the ones putting themselves at risk to keep the community safe. They should be paid a lot more than they are getting now.

We'll follow this case and keep you updated as more information becomes available. In the meantime, our neighborhood can begin getting back to normal. The way it was before cars were ripping up and down the street all hours of the day and night, going to and from that house.

A two month long investigation leads to an arrest earlier this evening on Lee St. in Eutaw. We have a statement from the Eutaw City police chief that we'll be posting here in a short while.

2007 Black Belt Folk Roots Festival

The 2007 festival is this coming weekend, August 25 & 26 on the Old Courthouse Square in Eutaw, Alabama. The admission is free.

Saturday August 25 - 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday August 26 - 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Enjoy a few of the sights and sounds of the August 2006 festival. Quiltmakers, a young artist and the award winning blues musician Willie King are featured in this video.

Filmed at the 31st Annual Black Belt Folk Roots Festival, held on the Old Courthouse Square in Historic Eutaw Alabama. Local folk artists who participate in this festival possess skills, talents and resources that are reflective of the culture and traditions of West Alabama.

The Black Belt Folk Roots Festival that I mentioned in a previous post took place this past weekend at the Old Courthouse Square in historic Eutaw. As expected, the weather was very hot, too hot for me to attend. But, all is not lost!

This year A1 Web Services sent a cameraman to shoot some video of the festivities. While editing the video, I got to enjoy some highlights from the first day of the 2 day event. It looked great, wish I could have been there! If the heat doesn't bother you, I'd recommend that you try to attend next year's festival.

I love handcrafted quilts and wow, from what I saw in the video, it looked like quilt heaven! There were lots of baskets and jewelry. I also heard there was leather works, African art and clothing, home decorations, floral arrangements, furniture, toys, wood carvings and similar crafts. I could see that there was more food there than you could imagine!

I really enjoyed the music of blues artist Willie King. And the best part of all is he gave permission for A1 Web to film his show for the video!!! That was awesome!

If all goes as planned, the video will be uploaded to Google video for all to enjoy. So check back here for updates.

Black Belt Folk Roots Festival

It's time once again for the annual Black Belt Folk Roots Festival. It will be held this coming weekend, August 26 and 27 on the Old Courthouse Square, Main Street in Eutaw Alabama.

There'll be crafts, quilts, baskets, etc., lots of food and live music. Too bad the planners of this event didn't take into account the miserable, sweltering heat and humidity when they chose the time of year to have the festival.

One can only venture to guess how many people there are who would like to attend, but choose to stay away because of the August heat. I won't be going and I live only a few blocks away from Old Courthouse Square.

They say there will be live blues bands on Saturday. I'd like to hear that, but oh well..........

Maybe one day the planners will get a clue. Wishful thinking.
